Silver-based Pool Sanitizers – An Alternative

Many public pools are closed every year for a few days after an inspection by state authorities. Pools are often found to be not maintained at the appropriate levels to ensure that users can swim without becoming sick from ingestion of impure water. Most pools use a chlorine based pool sanitizer method to maintain healthy swimming pools and crystal-clear water. There are a number of new sanitizers on the market that pool operators can use, including silver-based pool sanitizers that use a silver based ion system to sanitize the water and maintain it in a healthy state for swimming pool users.

A silver-based pool sanitizer has several advantages over other disinfecting systems that are commonly available. There is no caustic odour from a silver-based system, which is particularly valuable for indoor pools. Chlorine can cause corrosion of metals particularly if the chlorine is in heavy concentrations. Chlorine will stain and bleach clothing while silver-based systems do not cause stains. A sanitizer that is silver-based also costs less than chlorine systems do and the silver based ions do not evaporate from the pool the way that chlorine does especially in hot summer sunlight.

Silver based ion systems generate ions by using a mild electric current which will sanitize the water in swimming pools. With the advantageous mentioned above these systems are particularly attractive to small swimming pool owners who are tired of the difficulties with chlorine based sanitizer systems. Once you have converted to silver based ion system, many consumers wonder why they took so long to make the decision to convert.
