Swimming Pool Filters – Crystal Clear Water
Next to the pools circulation system, swimming pool filters are the most important part of your swimming pools water management system. The filters that are installed with your swimming pool will filter out all of the dirt and small debris that enters your pool from the air and from individuals that use your pool. If your pool filter is not operating at 100% efficiency, consumers may find that their pools are cloudy or debris such as sand and dirt begins to build up on the floor of your pool. Regular backwashing of the pool filter and annual cleaning is a required to ensure that the filter is working at optimum efficiency for your pool.
The wind will blow many small particles of sand and dirt, pollen and other small particles into the pools. Add to that the body oils, suntan lotion, bits of hair and you have the conditions for algae growth. Fortunately, chlorine can be added to the pool to prevent any algae from taking hold and growing. Once algae takes hold your pool, it can turn green very quickly if not properly managed. Scum can also build up in your pool as well making, making a swim very unpleasant. In some cases the pool cannot be used until the algae is filtered out. The swimming pool filter is the active mechanism, that will ensure that all algae and other debris does not remain in the pool once it has been killed by the chlorine.
The filter is filled with sand in most common installations, and all of the small particles are caught between the grains of sand including dead algae and bits of hair. Once a week, or sometimes even more, the filter must be backwashed to clean the filter and the dirty water emptied into the drain. Backwashing will prepare the sand mixture for renewed filter action by cleaning all of the debris out of the filter.
