Pool Heat Pumps – Great Way to Heat Your Pool

There are many ways to heat pools and extend the swimming season for your family. Consumers can utilize thermal solar blankets, gas and electric heaters, solar heaters and pool heat pumps to heat their pools. Heat pumps work by extracting heat from their surroundings and moving that heat to the water in pools. Heat pumps work well in warm temperatures and provide the necessary amount of heat to increase the pools temperature to the level that is comfortable for swimming.

There are several types of heat pumps for pools. A pool heat pump that works to extract thermal heat from the surrounding air begins to lose efficiency as the air temperature drops. If the ambient air is below 50 degrees, you may find that the heat pump will not warm the temperature of the water to the desired level. Heat pumps can be used to warm up the water in pools as well as hot tubs and spa’s.

Gas heaters or electric heaters work faster than thermal heat pumps in pools. Gas heaters can warm up a good amount of water in a matter of hours. Consumers who want to swim on the weekend can turn on their pump on Friday morning and be swimming in comfortable warm water by Friday evening. Heat pumps on the other hand will take longer and can be used to maintain a pool’s temperature at the desired level providing the outdoor temperature has not declined too much. Adding a pool cover will also help to reduce heat loss from your pool’s water and make it easier on your pump.
