Basement Swimming Pools – Ideal for Cooler Climates

Pool owners in the northern US and southern Canada have relatively short pool seasons compared to southern climates in Florida or California for example. Owners can extend the season in a number of ways. Heaters and solar blankets can add a month or two to the season, however if you want to really extend the season, users are increasingly moving to underground swimming pools. Sometimes they are called underground or subterranean swimming pools. Basement swimming pools allow users to swim all year long and gain yearlong enjoyment out of your investment.

Imagine that it is –20 degrees outside and you are trying to decide if you should go to the gym or go for a swim in your basement swimming pool. Is there even a decision to be made in this regard? Subterranean and underground swimming pools can be dressed up and decorated to achieve that tropical look. They do not have to be just the four cement walls and you can create areas for tanning, add a hot tub or sauna as well as areas to relax after an energetic swim.

Consumers do have to arrange for appropriate ventilation and manage the moisture content in the rest of the house when a basement pool is constructed and operating in your home. They will also need to allow for what is called a splash zone to manage the water that gets splashed out of the pool and they must also have a sump pump to handle any run off from splashing water. Having a 5 to 10 foot area around the pool with no carpet is about right for many in subterranean basement pools.
