Swimming Pool Exercise – Easy on Your Joints

As the baby boom generation ages, many people are realizing that all of that exercise and workouts they did with the constant pounding of running long distances has taken a toll on their joints. Hip replacements, knee replacements are becoming more common as so are canes and wheel chairs for people with serious problems. Swimming pool exercises are a new way of gaining exercise and working on your muscles instead of wearing down your joints. The water helps you float while at the same time providing aquatic resistance to exercise your muscles.

Many pools now offer aquatic exercise programs that emphasize swimming pool exercises as an alternative to jogging and running on tread mills. Pool exercises are a much easier workout for the joints, yet can be just as aerobic, perhaps more so in some cases. Swimmers can complete laps in the pool with minimum effect on sore joints. Non swimmers are also finding that there are now aquatic exercise programs that they can participate in the pools. Workouts involving weights made for the pool added to the natural resistance of the water against your body can provide an excellent workout.

There are many new products being introduced as well that are aimed at the aquatic exercise crowd for both young and older people looking for a workout without the corresponding pain on their joints. Water stations are being introduced that emulate the workout stations you might find in any gym. Combined with the resistance of the water, these stations provide excellent workouts. Waste floaters allow users to tread water without having to really work at staying afloat. People of all ages can give their legs an excellent workout in pools.
