Insulated Pool Structures – Extend Your Swimming Season

Many owners of pools ignore heat loss that takes place through the sides of the pool to the surrounding earth, which will be as much as 30 F degrees lower than the water. Now consumers can purchase insulated pool structures to reduce heat loss through the sides of the pool, and insulate the sides!

An insulated pool structure consists of four inches of polystyrene foam panels coated with plaster on both sides. A vinyl liner or a fibreglass gel is then added to complete the structure of the pool wall. 4 inches of insulated material equivalent is to an R48 insulation factor which, in many cases, is more insulation than a lot of houses have. Consumers will be able to enjoy the swimming season much longer when their pools do not cool off as quickly. The structures that insulate are also as strong as any steel or fibreglass walls from existing construction techniques.

In addition, with a structure of this type, consumers will reduce the energy cost of keeping pools warm. Combined with a pool cover to insulate the pool on the surface, energy costs can be reduced significantly. Some owners may be concerned about the impact of earthquakes on the wall formation. Many of these insulated formations have already been installed in California with no difficulty.
