Money-saving Pool Tips – Suggestions and Hints
In ground and above ground pools can cost a lot of money to operate, however there are several ways to reduce your costs, be economical and improve your swimming pool enjoyment. A few money-saving pool tips include using a pool cover, checking for pool leaks, right size your pump and filter, keep your water balanced and chlorinated to avoid active algae growth.
A big money-saving pool tip that affects your pools enjoyment, water usage and chemicals is using a pool cover. Using a pool cover is a great suggestion, because it can reduce evaporation by up to 90%, reduces the suns breakdown of the chlorine in your pool, heats your pool during the day and reduces the heat loss at night.
Pool leaks are another major area that you can fix to be economical and save money. Some of the hints and tips to find leaks include marking the water level with a grease pencil and waiting 24 hours to see if there is a change. Turn off the pools pump and once the water has stopped moving, take a piece of plastic and hold it near the skimmer and also at the return lines. If there is a leak at either of these locations, you will know by the way the plastic moves.
Another tip is to ensure that your pool pump and filter are the right size. Too small and you may have consistent algae problems and find that you have to use too much chlorine. Keeping your water clean and the chemicals in proper balance is another great tip. Make sure that your water is stabilized to reduce chlorine usage and be more economical.
