Choosing Pool Liners – Criteria to Use
New pools with come with a standard vinyl pool liner that is recommended by the manufacturer or installer of your new pool. Consumers choosing pool liners usually have a choice with regard to the thickness of the vinyl lining and the pattern of the vinyl. The thickness of the liner to choose in your pool is important since there is a certain amount of stretching when the pool is being filled and thicker liners will last longer as well. Those with in ground pools should choose a 30 mil thick liner and above ground pools should have at least a 20 mil liner.
The pattern on your pool liner is also important. Choosing a pool liner with the right pattern can compliment your back yard, make it a conversation piece and add a great deal of enjoyment to the summer swimming season. Some of the better liners are so good that they are able to emulate a concrete tiled pool. When you choose a liner, consumers should always choose the best quality and the best looking pattern of lining to enhance your back yard.
Once you have installed your pool lining, you can extend the life of your liner by several years using proper maintenance techniques. Most vinyl liners will last approximately ten years. Maintaining your chemicals at the proper chlorine levels, ph levels, hardness and copper levels will help ensure that your liner does not become damaged over the years. Covering your pool with a UV protective cover will also extend the life of the pool by several years. During the winter months when the pool is not used, it should be covered to keep the liner from becoming brittle.
